"Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Uncrewed Aerial Systems The Robotics, Mechatronics, and Automation Laboratory (RMAL) at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Toronto, Canada, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on Uncrewed Aerial Systems. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in aerial robotics while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and several national and international institutions including the National Research Council of Canada, University of Waterloo, and INRIA Rennes. About the Role The successful applicant will: - Conduct research and development in open-source drone platforms (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot). - Design and implement control algorithms, motion planning, and vision systems for drones. - Lead research efforts and mentor graduate students in collaborative projects. - Publish high-quality research papers in leading journals and conferences. - Take initiative in preparing grant applications and funding proposals. - Manage and coordinate research teams to ensure project goals and timelines are met. Qualifications Candidates should meet the following requirements: - Education: A PhD in one of the related fields including Robotics, Control, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science. - Experience: - Hands-on experience in drone development, including open-source platforms (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot). - A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals and conferences in robotics, control, or aerial systems. - Experience leading research teams and coordinating projects. - Skills: - Strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, or other relevant languages. - Knowledge of ROS/ROS2 and PX4 flight stack is an asset. - Expertise in robot modeling, control, motion planning, and machine learning applications. - Background in hardware/software integration for robotic systems. - Additional Requirements: - Oral and written proficiency in English - Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage research and mentor students effectively. - A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Additional Information - Start Date: Immediate - Salary and benefits: very competitive and above the Canadian NSERC norm, depends on the qualifications. - RMAL is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
