The City of Los Angeles Department of General Services has multiple Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic positions available as an emergency appointment at the Civic Center, open until a sufficient number of applications are received.
The bi-weekly salary range is $4,957.60 to $5,617.60.
The selected candidate repairs and rebuilds components and sub-assemblies on all construction equipment, including exchanging overhauled transmissions, replacing clutches, overhauling control valves, rebuilding hydraulic cylinders, and repairing engines.
Duties include performing BIT inspections as required by the California Highway Patrol plus scheduled critical safety item inspections.
The mechanic operates equipment to move it to work locations and tests operations to diagnose mechanical issues.
Parts and research work involves studying maintenance and parts manuals, writing store requisitions, and collaborating with Supply Management System personnel and vendors to locate required parts.
Equipment repair data is updated accurately in the automated Vehicle Management System.
Minimum qualifications are completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a heavy duty equipment mechanic, two years of full-time paid journey-level experience on heavy-duty equipment, or five years of equipment maintenance experience with two years in heavy-duty work.
A valid Class C California driver license is required at filing, and General Services positions require a Class A and/or B license with tanker and/or hazmat endorsements plus a valid medical certificate before appointment.
