Assistant Professor – Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Jewish Studies (Segal Chair), with a Second Specialization in Sociology of Religion, Historical Sociology, Political Sociology, Cultural Sociology, or Social Stratification Department of Jewish Studies and Department of Sociology, McGill University The Department of Jewish Studies and the Department of Sociology invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position (Segal Chair in Jewish Studies), commencing August 1, 2027. We seek applicants who work at the intersection of Jewish Studies and Sociology with an outstanding research profile related to Jewish culture, religion, and/or politics. Candidates with expertise in the North American Jewish experience are of particular interest. Applicants should likewise hold expertise in one or more of the following sub-fields: Sociology of Religion, Historical Sociology, Political Sociology, Cultural Sociology, or Social Stratification. Strong applications will provide evidence of the ability to teach effectively in both departments at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should also make clear their commitment to building intellectual community within and across departments and among students. Job Duties Research; teaching; service. Qualifications and Education requirements 1. PhD in Sociology and/or Jewish Studies or in related fields (includes those who expect to receive their PhD by the start of the position); 2. A strong emerging record of publications and independent program of research; 3. Experience in teaching as lecturer or teaching assistant.
