Job Overview
MIT's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), together with the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), seeks tenure-track faculty at the assistant professor level, beginning July 1, 2027 or on a mutually agreed date.
The search targets candidates making foundational contributions to the science and engineering of decision-making for networked infrastructure, connecting advances in machine learning, operations research, control, and statistics to real-world systems such as supply chains, energy, transportation, water, and logistics.
Particular areas of interest include sequential decision-making at scale, hybrid physics and data models, and trustworthy AI for critical infrastructure.
The successful candidate will hold a shared appointment in CEE and IDSS.
Faculty responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising students, conducting original scholarly research, and developing course materials, with a normal teaching load of two subjects per year coordinated across both units.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related science or engineering field.
The pay range for a nine-month academic appointment at the entry-level assistant professor rank is $143,000-$147,000.
To receive full consideration, completed applications should be submitted by December 1, 2026.
