Job Overview

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection is seeking an experienced attorney to handle complex workers' rights cases and supervise litigation in its Office of Labor Policy and Standards. The Senior Enforcement Counsel manages a docket of high-impact investigations and court cases, including matters before the city's administrative trials office and state courts. The role supervises attorneys as they build evidence for litigation and decide how cases should be resolved, including remedies and penalties. It also contributes to enforcement policy and recommends changes to laws, rules, and procedures that strengthen worker protections. The post involves advising senior management on legal and administrative policy questions and handling personnel matters for direct reports. Candidates must be admitted to the New York State Bar and remain in good standing, with at least one year of US legal experience after admission. Five or more years of litigation experience, including employment law, is preferred, along with supervision and settlement negotiation experience. New York City residency is not required for this position, which may allow remote work up to two days a week.
