Job Overview

The School of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, is recruiting a Research Fellow in Tribology of Future Marine Engines. The project investigates how alternative marine fuels affect the friction and wear performance of marine engine lubricants. Using bespoke wear-testing rigs and advanced analytical facilities, the fellow will study fuel–lubricant interactions and overall system reliability under representative engine operating conditions. The research responds to shipping decarbonisation, where the impact of new fuels on existing lubricant technologies remains poorly understood. The post is Grade 7 (£41,064 to £48,822 per annum) and was advertised on 20 October 2026, with a closing date of 17 November 2026. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed, and the role may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route. Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Ardian Morina or Dr Cayetano Espejo Conesa. The position is based in Leeds at the University of Leeds.
