Job Overview
The School of Physics and Astronomy is recruiting a Research Fellow in Quantum Criticality and Conformal Field Theory.
The project develops new theoretical and computational approaches to quantum critical phenomena using the recent "fuzzy sphere" approach.
Focus areas include conformal field theories in 2+1 dimensions and their numerical simulation via the noncommutative geometry of the fuzzy sphere.
Methods include exact diagonalisation, matrix product states and neural quantum state techniques.
Candidates should have a background in lattice gauge theories, non-equilibrium physics or numerical simulation of quantum many-body systems.
The post is Grade 7 (£41,064 to £48,822 per annum) and was advertised on 16 October 2026, with a closing date of 30 November 2026.
The position is based in Leeds; informal enquiries can be made to Professor Zlatko Papic, Theoretical Physics.
The standard university benefits package applies, including 26 days' holiday plus bank holidays and a generous pension.
