Job Overview
The Ahn Lab at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI), Jewish General Hospital University Health Centre, affiliated with McGill University, is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to support research at the interface of systems biology, cancer biology, and functional proteomics.
The successful candidate will play a key role in research projects within the Ahn Lab and collaborative projects with other labs, contributing to both experimental and computational work. They will also contribute to the development and implementation of new experimental methods and support the day-to-day organization and operation of the lab.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for bottom-up proteomic analyses (e.g., phosphoproteomics, immunopeptidomics)
- Generating and processing biological samples for MS-based analyses
- Performing routine instrument monitoring, maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting
- Processing, analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting MS-based proteomic datasets, as well as data generated from complementary wet lab experiments
- Using MS-related software (e.g., Xcalibur, Proteome Discoverer, Mascot, commercial/open-source software)
- Using R for data processing, statistical analysis, and visualization. Prior coding experience is not required, but willingness to learn and routinely use R is critical
- Performing standard molecular and cellular biology experiments (e.g., tissue culture, immunoblot, RT-qPCR, ELISA) following established lab protocols.
The ideal candidate holds a BSc or MSc in biochemistry, immunology, neuroscience, biology, systems biology, analytical chemistry, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field. He/She has at least 2 years of relevant research experience in an academic or industry lab, with prior experience in MS-based proteomics and quantitative data analysis, or a strong interest and willingness to develop expertise in these areas. Demonstrated hands-on experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related wet-lab techniques is also required.
Interested applicants should complete the application form. In addition, applicants should submit the following: Brief cover letter describing their research experience and interest in the position; CV; Undergraduate transcript and, if applicable, MSc transcript; Names and contact information of two references who can speak to their experience and/or work. References may be contacted as part of the application review process, including prior to an interview.
Please combine the CV, transcript(s), and cover letter into a single PDF named LastName_FirstName_Application.pdf and email it to Ryuhjin Ahn at ryuhjin.ahn@mcgill.ca.
