Job Overview
The Nigrovic Lab at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School seeks a postdoctoral fellow to spearhead R01-funded studies exploring the impact of emperipolesis - the transit of neutrophils through megakaryocytes - on platelet function.
The work builds on the observation that neutrophils pass regularly through megakaryocyte cytoplasm, leaving behind membrane that emerges on the surface of megakaryocytes and thereby on some platelets, forming a distinctive 'hybrid platelet' population.
The fellow will pursue evidence that hybrid platelets are functionally distinct, using in vivo thrombosis models, two-photon microscopy, in vitro assays with high-resolution imaging, and an ex vivo platelet bioreactor.
Candidates need a PhD, or MD with substantial lab experience, in cellular and immune biology; specific platelet experience is desirable but not essential, and murine study experience is useful.
The lab is a basic and translational research group in the Division of Immunology.
Pay range $70,000-$75,000 per year.
