Job Overview
A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Thomas lab in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. The fellow will perform single-molecule force spectroscopy experiments to study the mechanical regulation of thrombosis through von Willebrand Factor. A second project area is the mechanical regulation of bacterial adhesion during endocarditis, an infection of the heart valves. Both projects provide the opportunity to work independently as well as in large multidisciplinary teams. Successful applicants will have, or be in the process of completing, a PhD or equivalent in bioengineering, biophysics, or a related field. Applicants will ideally have experience with single-molecule force spectroscopy or other quantitative functional biophysics experiments. Experience with molecular biology and protein expression would also be helpful. Applicants should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Thomas lab strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates. Candidates should send a cover letter and a CV with publication list and contact information for three references by email to Wendy Thomas.
