Job Overview
Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences seeks a postdoctoral fellow in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, in Professor Mande Holford's lab in Cambridge, MA.
The fellow joins a large-scale project investigating the evolution of cephalopods and their venom systems, including posterior salivary glands and venom gene families.
Work combines phylogenetic, molecular, and morphological analysis using bioinformatics, comparative phylogenetic methods, and wet lab techniques.
The role spans fieldwork and museum specimen collection, sample collection from diverse marine species, and hands-on dissections of invertebrates for anatomical and physiological studies.
Lab techniques include histology, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization chain reaction, RNA extraction, PCR, RT-qPCR, and confocal microscopy.
Responsibilities also cover data analysis, research dissemination and publications, outreach activities, and training lab members.
Candidates need a PhD in biology, chemical biology, ecology, environmental science, conservation biology, or a related field, with strong marine biology or evolution experience and a publication record.
The appointment is for one year with possible extension up to three years based on performance, with a salary range of $67,600 to $80,000.
Applications go to Professor Holford at holfordlab@fas.harvard.edu with a CV, a two to three page cover letter, and names and contact details of three references.
