Job Overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is looking for motivated and caring ambulance drivers for its Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS), based at Queen's Hospital in London. The service carries patients who cannot travel to or from hospital by other means because of medical or mobility conditions, with all transport requests assessed on medical need. Drivers provide a safe, timely, and comfortable transport service, moving patients using wheelchairs, carry chairs, stretchers, and car-suitable vehicles. You would conduct dynamic risk assessments of patients and their environment before each non-emergency journey, in line with Trust policies and procedures. The role includes keeping vehicles clean and tidy and reporting defects or accidents immediately. Applicants need BTEC or NVQ3-level education, good knowledge of UK geography, a clean driving licence, and previous experience in a healthcare or patient transport setting, ideally with elderly or infirm patients. Key skills include working on own initiative, planning economical routes, clear communication, teamwork, problem solving, and calm, professional care for patients. This is a permanent Band 3 post, available full time or part time at 37.5 hours per week, paying £29,651 to £31,312 per annum. Applications close on 28 November 2026 at 23:59; previous candidates need not apply. Note that the trust is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
