Job Overview
The University of Washington's Department of Asian Languages and Literature is building an alternate pool of Korean Language Teaching Assistants for academic year 2026-2027, in case current TAs must leave or new positions open. Alternates are not guaranteed a position but will be notified if they qualify for alternate status; students who applied for a Korean TA earlier this year may re-apply. Job duties include teaching Korean language classes in Korean, preparing and grading tests, homework, and assignments, keeping student records, attending TA meetings and course lectures, and collaborating with the supervisor and other TAs. Only graduate students accepted by or enrolled in UW's College of Arts and Sciences or College of Education are eligible; undergraduates are not eligible. Strong Korean language skills are required, along with strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The role involves morning lectures Monday through Friday (1-2 hours daily) plus class prep, office hours, grading, and other duties, up to 20 hours per week on average. Compensation starts at the TA level of $3,612 per month (higher by academic rank), and includes a tuition and fee waiver plus benefits including health insurance. Non-native English speakers must satisfy UW Graduate School Policy 5.2 English proficiency requirements by the time of appointment. To apply, candidates email a cover letter (including UW student ID, addressed to department chair Professor Chan Lu), CV/resume, and unofficial transcript(s) by October 29, 2026; decisions will be sent by November 12, 2026. The posting is live on UW's official careers site with recruitment running October 15-30, 2026.
