Job Overview
NHS Lothian is recruiting a Chief Nurse for Research and Development, a Band 8C post at 14.4 hours per week (0.4 WTE), on a two-year fixed-term job-share contract.
The post holder will work alongside the existing Chief Nurse Research and Development, sharing professional leadership of the clinical research nursing and midwifery workforce and strategic leadership for building research capacity across nursing, midwifery and allied health professions.
Responsibilities include operational management of three whole-time-equivalent clinical research nurse managers.
The role supports implementation and evaluation of the NHS Lothian Research Delivery Community Strategic Plan 2026 to 2029, and helps finalise, implement and evaluate the NMAHPP Research Strategic Plan 2026 to 2030.
It involves collaborative leadership and engagement with seven academic partners across Scotland, with opportunities to undertake own research and supervise post-graduate research students.
There is no fixed base: working from home is an option, with access to a bookable desk at Waverley Court, and the post holder will line-manage staff at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Western General Hospital.
Salary is pro rata for the part-time hours, and the post requires PVG scheme membership for work with vulnerable groups.
Informal enquiries and an informal chat can be arranged with Juliet MacArthur on 07792894760.
Applications are welcomed from all sections of society, with reasonable adjustments available for disabled candidates and those with long-term conditions.
